EPS' clean, uniform, oil-free surface offers a better base for downstream processes.
Processes like galvanizing, coil coating and cold rolling perform better with EPS-processed steel. EPS mitigates surface defects like silicon streaks, minor roll marks and pitting. Certain cleaning steps can be eliminated by virtue of the clean, oil-free EPS surface. For example, batch galvanizers who switch to EPS will no longer need an acid bath to remove HRPO's oil. And because EPS can be ordered with a smoother (lower Ra) or rougher (higher Ra) surface, processors can select an EPS surface texture that works best for them.

The EPS low surface peak standard deviation (Rz) resulted in less draft from cold reduction. EPS removal of silicon streaks was noted, plus no oil left in bell annealing lines because there's no oil on EPS.
