Convert An Acid Pickling Line To An EPS Coil Line
The EPS process performs 'mechanical' pickling of hot roll strip, making it a great solution for retrofitting existing acid pickling lines. Pickling tanks and their plumbing, venting and spent liquor storage can be removed, along with pre-wash and post rinsing units. As the animation shows, most of the line's terminal equipment can be re-used in the EPS Coil Line:
When EPS cells replace the acid pickling tanks, overall line length can be reduced by as much as half, while output remains the same. The free space created can host another processing line. Retrofitting an acid pickling line to an EPS Coil Line offers many operational cost advantages:
- 30% reduction in operating costs
- Swap hazardous, corrosive process for 'green' process
- Ability to increase capacity by installing additional EPS cells (15,000 tons/month/cell)
EPS Conversion Benefits
EPS pickling offers cost stability versus acid pickling. Price and supply of pickling acid is subject to large swings. Price of natural gas to heat acid tanks is volatile. EPS eliminates this uncertainty.
In addition to cost advantages, picklers using the EPS process can offer their customers numerous Product Advantages over an acid-pickled product.
One more advantage is shape. The pulling forces between the EPS Line recoiler and scale breaker or roller leveler serve to tension level material up to the maximum line thickness.
changing environmental regulations, where EPS is not.
