EPS Cell Versions for Different Needs

Coil, sheet and plate – the EPS process applies equally well to all. There is an EPS Cell design for each of these products. The variant is the configuration of the Turbine Chamber – how many Slurry Turbines and how they are oriented. Each configuration is a distinct ‘version’ of EPS Cell, optimized to minimize capital and operational cost while maximizing performance for the target production rate.

Wide Coil

•   8 Slurry Turbines
•   Strip Thickness: 0.9 – 25mm

•   Strip Width: 900 – 2100 mm
  (36″ – 80”)

This EPS Cell design features the maximum capacity Turbine Chamber with 4 Slurry Turbines descaling the top surface and 4 descaling the bottom surface. This Cell is most commonly used in high production coil-to-coil EPS lines of one to four Cells. The Slurry blast pattern is automatically adjusted to provide optimum coverage over the input strip width.

Narrow Coil

•   Strip Width: 600 – 1350 mm
  (24″ – 53”)

The Narrow Coil EPS Cell uses 4 Slurry Turbines – 2 above, 2 below the strip. For narrow strip, a single Slurry Turbine’s blast stream covers the entire strip width. The lower capital cost and lower operating cost (less grit and electricity) of this Cell is attractive to processors who specialize in narrow coils, and multiple Cells can be placed in series to increase line throughput.

Sheet & Plate

  (.070″ – 1.0”)
•   Strip Width: 900 – 2100 mm
  (36″ – 80”)

This EPS Cell descales the full width of discrete sheet and plate, however, because feeding individual sheets and plate is inherently slower than feeding coil, only four Slurry Turbines are needed. This makes for a more compact, economical Cell with lower operational cost (less grit and electricity) compared to a full width Cell for processing coil.

EPS Cell Manufacture

EPS Cells are manufactured to strict standards by approved machinery builders under a license from TMW. These builders are selected for their ability to manufacture mill-duty equipment of superior quality. We inspect every EPS Cell prior to commissioning and provide complete startup services, including operator and maintenance training.

For China, only Zhejiang Jingu Company, Ltd. is authorized to manufacture EPS Cells. These Cells are not inspected or commissioned by TMW engineers.
